As of March 1, 2000, the British Horse Society Progressive Riding Tests have changed. The original 12 tests have been streamlined to make the system more user friendly and to encourage students to make the transition from Progressive Riding Tests to British Horse Society examinations.

All the new tests are still comprised of equitation and stable management. Each new Syllabus/Progressive Card has a number of elements that need to be signed off by the instructor before the candidate is eligible to take the relevant test. On the successful completion of the first Test, candidates will be issued a certificate with six boxes, one for each test. The first box is already completed, so stickers will be added for each subsequent level achieved.

Once all six tests have been completed, details will be forwarded to the BHS in England, who will send the candidate the official certificate of completion (proof of passing all six tests in case candidates want to enter into further examinations.)

Candidates do not have to be a member of the British Horse Society to compete the Progressive Riding Tests, but they must become a member if they go on to complete the BHS Stage Examinations. Only BHS Approved Riding Schools may offer these tests.

Progressive test requirements are available in the T.E.S. office.
