Traditional Equitation School is the first and only "BHS Approved Riding Establishment" on the West Coast. This achievement allows us to offer the BHS training and exam (certificate) programs to our students as well as to other students and instructors.

The BHS encourages a system of horsemanship that ensure the welfare of rider and horse is paramount and this is reflected in the quality of instruction offered.

TES offers the chance for any student to study, train and become cetified in, this method of complete horsemanship. We offer training and exams for Stage 1 and Stage 2, both in horse care and equitation (on the flat and jumping).

The Stage 1 horse care lectures are held every Saturday from 4:00 - 5:30pm The riding is assessed on alternate Fridays at 8:00 pm for 1 hour (it is assumed that the student rides regularly in addition to the BHS program.)

The Stage 2 horse care lectures are held on Tuesday 8:00 - 9:30 pm. The riding is on alternate Fridays.

Prices for the Program:

Per Session Lectures - $20.00
Riding - $50.00

Monthly Package Lectures - $72.00 (4 lectures)
Riding - $90.00 (2 lessons)

Combined Monthly Package Lectures and Riding - $150.00

Why is BHS Approval Important?

The British Horse Society, the leading United Kingdom equine charity, is the governing body of most equestrian sports and is involved with the majority of matters relating to the horse industry. This training and exam program is recognized as one of the best in the world.

Until very recently, the BHS was only able to accept centers in the UK and Ireland for Approval. However, following consultations with the American Horse Shows Association (AHSA) and the United States Dressage Federation (USDF), a limited number of riding centers can now be Approved in the U.S. Traditional Equitation School is now one of those Approved schools.

What is the BHS Approval Scheme?

Only facilities which offer sound instruction in riding and horsemanship and where premises and care of equines meet high standards are given the BHS Approval. This worldwide scheme is used by both the beginner when selecting a barn and the advanced rider when looking for instruction in a specific area of equitation.

For T.E.S., it is a sign that we meet high standards and teach riding in a safe environment with professional instructors. BHS Approved barns are inspected annually regarding care of equines, saddlery, safety, teaching, facilities, and lessons to ensure that they meet the required standard.
