Our History . . . Traditional Equitation School was established in 1979 at Bell Canyon Equestrian Center in Canoga Park, California, by Patricia Kinnaman and the late Lilian Van Dahn. T.E.S. moved to the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in 1986. During the past decade we have become one of the largest riding schools in the country. Our comprehensive curriculum includes a variety of equestrian sports and instruction tailored to all ages and levels of ability.
Our Philosophy . . . T.E.S. is a professional riding school with a foundation in the art of classical riding (dressage) as taught in the European riding academies. The various styles of riding offered for study all have a common goal--the horse should be ridden forward, straight and with ease. The rider should function in such a way as to make this possible. Good horsemanship requires a balanced combination of discipline, physical coordination, quick reflexes, sharp mental skills, patience and compassion for the welfare of the horse. In order to achieve this, sound training techniques, safety and good riding basics are the foundation for all of our riding classes. We want our students to achieve their riding goals, whether they are simply safe and enjoyable pleasure riding, competition or horse ownership.
Our School . . . is conveniently located at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, California. We offer group, private and semi-private lessons for children and adults in Dressage, Jumping, Hunt Seat and Western for beginning through advanced level riders. Special activites include school horse shows, lectures and clinics, summer camps, riding clubs, working student program and horse leasing program. For students who board horses at the LAEC, we provides a wide range of special services from supplemental feeding to training.
Our Contributions . . . to the horse industry grow every year. In July 1999, we became the first riding school on the West Coast to obtain the "British Horse Society Approved Riding Establishment" status. This enables us to offer BHS certification programs.
The BHS has run a system for the Approval of Riding Schools since 1961. Barns which offer sound instruction in riding and horsemanship and where premises, facilities and care of equines meet high standards are given the BHS "Seal of Approval." This worldwide system is used by riders seeking suitable lessons and by students who are looking for a barn to train toward BHS qualifications.
For T.E.S., it is a sign that we meet high standards and teach riding in a safe environment with professional instructors. BHS Approved barns are inspected annually regarding care of equines, saddlery, safety, teaching, facilities, lessons and accommodation to make sure they meet the required standard. We are proud to have achieved this recognition.
In August 1999, we received an official Certificate of Recognition from the United States Equestrian Team (USET) for outstanding support in helping their equestrian athletes win seven Medals in the 1999 Pan American Games!
